IML (In-Mould Labeling)

IML (In-Mould Labeling) is a manufacturing process in which a printed label is inserted into the tool mould during the injection or blow molding process. The label then bonds inseparably with the finished component during plastic processing. The result is a robust, scratch-resistant and aesthetically pleasing surface with integrated lettering or decoration.

Advantages

  • Permanent connection: The label adheres firmly to the component and does not peel off.
  • High-quality appearance: Colours and graphic details are securely protected.
  • Process optimisation: No additional labelling step required.

Application areas for IML

IML is primarily used in the packaging industry, e.g. for plastic containers, lids or cups with decorative or information-relevant labels. The process is also used in the automotive and consumer goods sectors when scratch-resistant and durable decals are required.
