Wired LED
A wired LED is an LED with lead wires that are passed through holes in a printed circuit board and then soldered in place. This type of assembly is known as through-hole assembly (Through-Hole Technology, THT).
Wired LEDs are available in various designs, sizes and light colours. Typical examples include LEDs with a round plastic housing and two lead wires. They are used, amongst other things, for display, signalling and simple lighting applications.
SMD LEDs are frequently used for compact electronic assemblies and many modern lighting applications. However, this does not imply that one of the two types is fundamentally superior to the other in terms of luminous flux, efficiency or quality. These properties depend on the specific LED and its operating conditions.
